Connor Sturgeon, the 25-year-old who massacred at least five people at a Louisville bank where he worked as a portfolio banker, live-streamed the crime on Instagram, Breitbart reported. Authorities are working to keep the footage off of the internet. 

On Monday, Sturgeon walked into the Old National Bank where he worked and opened fire. He killed five and wounded eight others, including at least one police officer.

The gunman left a note for his parents, but no motive for the crime has been released. Sturgeon included his pronouns "he/him" on his LinkedIn profile which also listed him as a University of Alabama graduate with a Master of Science degree in finance.

Louisville Metropolitan Police Department Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said police responded quickly to the call as the crime was in progress, the New York Times reported. "Officers were on the scene within three minutes," she told reporters.

"The suspect shot at officers. We then returned fire and stopped that threat," Gwinn-Villaroel added.

Among those shot was Nickolas Wilt, a 26-year-old rookie officer who had just graduated from the police academy on March 31. He underwent brain surgery for head wounds and remains in critical condition.

The police chief did not release further details about the live stream except to say it was "tragic to know that incident was out there being captured." The officers who responded to the call were courageous, but it wasn't so long ago when the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department was being accused of misconduct in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor.

In 2020, officers killed Taylor during a raid, and an investigation into the department found alleged misconduct and abuses, according to a recently released report. However, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear had high praise for their response to Monday's tragedy.

"I know that there are steps that the police department is taking to do things better after a recent report," the Democratic governor told reporters. "But we certainly saw, I think, the very best from them today."

Among those killed was Thomas Elliott, 63, who was a longtime Democratic fundraiser and personal friend of Beshear. Elliot was also the Old National Bank vice president.

"We lost four children of God today, one of whom was one of my closest friends," Beshear said Monday afternoon. The death toll climbed to five that evening when bank employee Deana Eckert, 57, succumbed to her injuries.

"Tommy Elliott helped me build my law career, helped me become governor, gave me advice on being a good dad," Beshear remembered. "He’s one of the people I talk to most in the world, and very rarely were we talking about my job. He was an incredible friend."

If authorities have learned anything more about a possible motive, they aren't saying it publicly. Sturgeon was suffering from mental health issues and was suicidal, but it's a mystery why he also decided to be homicidal and broadcast it on the internet.

There is a deeply disturbing trend of these broken people committing public and heinous crimes. Democrats have nothing to offer except to take guns away from law-abiding citizens -- but who will stop a killer except a good guy with a gun?
