Liz Cheney believes Jan. 6th committee has Donald Trump on the ropes

Some people get defeated but slink away with their dignity. Others like Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) double down on the very thing that has made them unpopular.

Cheney said she believes former President Donald Trump will face a subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee "shortly," the Washington Examiner reported. The House select committee voted unanimously to question the former president under oath.

The Wyoming Republican faced a crushing defeat in her state's August primary, likely because of her involvement with the committee, NBC News reported. As the committee chairwoman, Cheney is promising that Trump will have to testify.

"So we'll be issuing a subpoena shortly, both for his testimony under oath as well as for documents," Cheney said. "And we'll take whatever next steps we have to take assuming that he will fulfill his legal obligation and honor the subpoena, but if that doesn't happen, we'll take the steps after that," she added.

The committee's vote was unanimous. Fellow Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, who is also on the committee, said on ABC's "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos that Trump will be "required by law to come in" to the hearings.

In response, Trump offered a 14-page rebuttal to the news about his impending subpoena. "You have not gone after the people that created the fraud, but rather great American patriots who questioned it, as is their constitutional right," Trump charged.

"These people have had their lives ruined as your committee sits back and basks in the glow." The commission blames Trump's rejection of the outcome of the 2020 presidential election as the catalyst for the demonstration at the Capitol building that day.

Critics point out that this commission has been a partisan witch hunt started by Democrats from the beginning. Cheney decided to throw in with them and paid dearly for it -- but instead of changing courses, she's giving up every last shred of credibility.
