Legendary rocker David Crosby dead at 81

The music world lost an absolute giant this week after it was announced that rock Hall of Famer David Crosby died at 81.

According to Breitbart, the rocker, part of the famous Crosby, Stills, and Nash group that took the genre by storm in their prime, reportedly suffered a long battle with an illness, according to a statement released by his wife.

"It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away," his wife wrote, which was first reported by Variety.

"He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us. His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched," she added.

"We will miss him dearly. At this time, we respectfully and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers."

Breitbart noted Crosby's talent: "Over the course of six decades in the music industry, the vocalist, guitarist and composer at the forefront of countercultural rock penned a rich array of heartfelt ballads and knife-edged bangers."

Given his well-earned reputation as one of the greats in the business, Crosby and his family were flooded with tributes across social media.

The memories and tributes to Crosby poured in from all corners of the music world, too.

"Dear Croz, Rest in Peace and Song, old friend. Much Love and Healing to Jan and Django, from Nils and Amy @roseaiello2 #DavidCrosby," Nils Lofgren tweeted.

"He was without question a giant of a musician, and his harmonic sensibilities were nothing short of genius,” Stills, his former bandmate said of Crosby. “The glue that held us together as our vocals soared, like Icarus, towards the sun."

Undoubtedly, Crosby left a legacy unlike few others could ever do.
