Leftists attempt to rewrite Roald Dahl's works, face instant backlash

It appears that leftists' attempt to rewrite the classic works of British author Roald Dahl has failed.

ABC News reports:

The publisher behind Roald Dahl's children's books announced Friday it will keep printing the original text of the late author's beloved titles, rolling back proposed changes that had recently sparked backlash from some members of the literary community.

If you don't know Dahl by name, then the chances are that you know him by his works, which are some of the most widely known works ever.

They include such stories as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG, and many, many more.

Many of these books are published by Puffin UK, the children's imprint of Penguin Random House Publisher. According to Fox News, recently, Puffin UK attempted to change passages in Dahl's works.

According to the outlet, "language describing 'fat' characters was altered and gender-neutral language was added, among other changes."

A backlash, however, quickly ensued.

The Guardian, also, released a report indicating that Dahl once warned his publishers that "if they later on so much as change a single comma in one of my books, they will never see another word from me."

"When I am gone, if that happens, then I'll wish mighty Thor knocks very hard on their heads with his Mjolnir," Dahl is quoted as saying. "Or I will send along the 'enormous crocodile' to gobble them up."

Whether Puffin UK got worried about Dahl's crocodile or whether they feared losing revenue is unclear. But, whatever the case may be, they now have decided to continue publishing the originals.

Francesca Dow, MD of Penguin Random House Children’s, released a statement on the matter.

Dow says:

We’ve listened to the debate over the past week which has reaffirmed the extraordinary power of Roald Dahl’s books and the very real questions around how stories from another era can be kept relevant for each new generation.

Dow, after recognizing the "privilege" and "responsibility" of "taking care for the imaginations and fast-developing minds of young readers," adds:

We also recognise the importance of keeping Dahl’s classic texts in print.  By making both Puffin and Penguin versions available, we are offering readers the choice to decide how they experience Roald Dahl’s magical, marvellous stories.

Going forward, a point of interest will be the sales of the originals versus the sales of the "woke" versions of Dahl's work.
