Kevin McCarthy reveals whether he will rip up speech like Nancy Pelosi did

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (D-CA) called out former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in a video that referred to the time she ripped up a copy of former President Donald Trump's State of the Union speech.

The 2020 act by Pelosi marked a low point in the treatment of Trump by Pelosi and other Democrats.

The video

“A lot of people have been asking if I’m planning on ripping up President Biden’s speech tonight. Here’s my answer,” McCarthy tweeted.

“You know, I don’t believe in the theatrics of tearing up speeches,” McCarthy said, adding, “I respect the other side. I can disagree on policy, but I want to make sure this country is stronger, economically sound, energy independent, secure, and accountable.”

McCarthy's speech

In his own speech on Monday, McCarthy attacked Democrats for reckless spending and pushing for increasing the debt ceiling instead of cutting spending to pay down government debt.

“Thanks to four years of runaway spending by the Democrats, they increased annual discretionary spending by $400 billion – that’s a 30% increase in just four years. They took our nation’s credit card, spent like crazy, and left us in deep debt. But not once did they seek or accept any responsibility. Instead, they doubled down,” McCarthy said.

“In 2021, Democrats passed the largest debt limit increase in American history,” he added. “Then, they maxed out our nation’s credit card again just 13 months later. Now, President Biden wants Congress to raise the debt limit yet again … without a single, sensible change to how government spends your hard-earned money. None.”

McCarthy later blasted Biden for problems during his speech.

"One hour into this speech, and President Biden hasn't mentioned China or our border once. But he's proposed raising taxes three times," he tweeted. "Tells you where his priorities lie."

McCarthy's concerns are held by many Americans who want to see real action to help the economy rather than more political games from the left.
