Kevin McCarthy promises "thorough investigation" of Paul Pelosi's stock deals if Republicans win in November

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, has had his share of legal troubles. Things may be about to get worse for him.

Paul Pelosi's recent DUI troubles are about to be compounded if Republicans retake Congress, the Conservative Brief reported. GOP House Leader Minority Kevin McCarthy has promised new legislation and a "thorough investigation" of Paul Pelosi's stock deals.

In late May, Paul Pelosi was involved in a crash and found to have a blood alcohol limit over the legal limit. He was recently convicted and sentenced to five days in jail for his part in the crash that caused injuries.

Now McCarthy is pledging to look into lawmakers' spouses' trading habits thanks to the unusual amount of luck Paul Pelosi has had. As the House and Senate were passing legislation that benefited tech company NVIDIA, Paul Pelosi was trading purchasing shares.

"I would look all the way through it," McCarthy said. "What I've told everybody is we will come back, and we will not only investigate this, we will come back with a proposal to change the current behavior," McCarthy said of legislation Democrats have promised after the August recess.

"Her husband can trade all the way through, but now it becomes a crisis?" the California Republican said. "I think what her husband did was wrong," he added.

"I think we need to bring trust back to this institution," McCarthy said. "I think we have to do a thorough investigation and look at what is the proper role for members of Congress and what influence they have, and I don't think the proper way to do this is Nancy Pelosi writing the bill because we have proven that she can't do that."

Insider trading is criminal for average Americans. There's no reason people who happen to be married to members of Congress should be held to a different standard.
