When teenage girls throw Instagrammable parties just for show, it’s an understandable impulse of youth. When Vice President Kamala Harris does it, it’s just kind of sad.
In an effort to save face, it appears Harris was forced to throw a post-Independence Day barbecue for her employees amid reports of staffers’ mistreatment in the vice president’s administration, Fox News reported. Some posted their photos from the event that was held at Harris’s Naval Observatory residence.

Late last month, Politico ran a story that painted a very different picture of the administration than the one portrayed by the tweets. Nearly two dozen people in Harris’s and President Joe Biden’s orbit claimed the administration was a dysfunctional place to work.
“People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and it’s an abusive environment,” someone close to the situation told Politico. “It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s—.”
Harris’s staff had to throw together a last-minute trip to the U.S.-Mexican border at the vice president’s request, a move that epitomized the volatility and chaos of the office. The move was not a proactive decision, but rather a reactive panic to her critics.
Of course, Symone Sanders, Harris’s senior advisor and chief spokeswoman, chided detractors for complaining to the press and insisted she had an “open-door policy” to air such grievances. “People are cowards to do this this way,” she told the publication.
“We are not making rainbows and bunnies all day,” Sanders pointed out. “What I hear is that people have hard jobs, and I’m like, ‘welcome to the club.'”
It’s pretty clear that Harris doesn’t know what she’s doing when it comes to anything she’s attempted to improve while in office. It’s nice that she threw a party for her staff, but just like trip to the border, the timing and deliberate tone leaves one wondering if it wasn’t just another photo op.
