It’s bad for California Gov. Gavin Newsom when the population of his own state is against him. It’s even worse when the Democratic governor is relying on Vice President Kamala Harris for help.
Harris will assist Newsom as he fights to keep his own job against the recall effort currently underway and gaining momentum, Breitbart reported. Harris is set to appear with the governor at a rally in the Bay Area Friday.
“I am excited to join my friend and our vice president next week,” Newsom said. “The stakes of this election couldn’t be higher.”
Newsom also had support from President Joe Biden who pleaded with voters on his behalf. “Gov. @GavinNewsom is leading California through unprecedented crises—he’s a key partner in fighting the pandemic and helping build our economy back better,” he said in a tweet last week. “To keep him on the job, registered voters should vote no on the recall election by 9/14 and keep California moving forward.”

Regardless of how many friends Newsom has in high places, he has to overcome his own unpopularity and incompetence. It was the groundswell of dissatisfaction with the job he was doing in the first place that helped spur on the movement that eventually led to the recall effort to be decided Sept. 14.
It’s difficult to imagine how Harris or even Biden will help the situation. Harris is notoriously unlikeable and the current debacle with the pullout from Afghanistan and return to Taliban rule is tanking her approval numbers, the New York Post reported.
Democrats are hoping for better turnout from their own party. Although Republicans make up only a quarter of registered voters, the recall effort has had overwhelming support from the GOP as “they made up a third of those most likely to vote in the recall election,” according to Fox News. The momentum is favoring Republican candidates including front-runner Larry Elder, the black conservative talk radio host.
The Democrats are in trouble just about everywhere, but losing California would be monumental. It seems they’re running scared, but having Harris as their last best hope confirms just how much of an uphill climb they’re having.
