Kamala Harris speaks at abortion rights rally following abortion pill legal win

Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at an abortion rally in Los Angeles on Saturday after the Supreme Court issued a stay on abortion pill restrictions.

Harris urged her listeners to "stand up and fight" in support of abortion rights during her talk.

The comments

“When you attack the rights of women in America, you are attacking America,” Harris told the audience.

“We have seen attacks on voting rights, attacks on fundamental rights to love and marry the people that you love, attacks on the ability of people to be themselves and be proud of who they are," she added.

The abortion pill battle

"Some of the protesters voiced their anger at the steps of the nation’s high court, which took Friday’s action at the request of the federal Justice Department," the Associated Press reported.

"The agency asked the high court to lift restrictions on mifepristone imposed by an appellate court in Texas earlier in the week. The decision by the appellate court reduced the window of time when the drug could be used and prevented the drug from being dispensed by mail," it added.

Harris also took to Twitter to call pro-life advocates "extremists."

"From pushing to ban abortion in all 50 states to criminalizing doctors and nurses, extremist elected officials continue to attack reproductive freedom," she wrote.

The shift in focus to abortion pills follows the Supreme Court's ruling last year that allows individual states to make laws on abortion limitations.

Several states have added more restrictive laws, including some states with near-total abortion bans. Abortion rights activists have increased focus on abortion pills that are now used in over half of the nation's abortions, with the FDA approving the sale of the pills in retail pharmacies.

The battle is certain to continue, with Harris taking the most extreme pro-abortion view possible as she advocates on the issue as it continues as a top political topic for Democrats headed into the 2024 election cycle nationwide.
