Kamala Harris says no one should go to jail for 'weed' after sentencing over 1k for the crime

Vice President Kamala Harris said that no one should serve jail time for marijuana, though she has sentenced more than 1,000 people for the same crime.

Harris shared the remarks during a Texas fundraiser on Saturday.

"We are also changing — y'all might have heard that this week — the federal government's approach to marijuana," Harris said.

"Because the bottom line there is nobody should have to go to jail for smoking weed," she added.

Harris sent over 1,000 people in California to jail while she was the district attorney of San Francisco for marijuana-related crimes. She seemed to forget her own past while touting the new policy of President Joe Biden to pardon many marijuana possession offenses.

The new response also shows a new emphasis by the left to legalize marijuana ahead of the November midterms. The issues, garnering some support from both parties, has been an area of great change over the decade, with Harris herself a major example of a political leader who now holds a different view.
