Kamala Harris and Joe Biden claim to base their COVID-19 platform on “science” and “the experts,” but Harris appears to have abruptly reversed that policy now that the US is close to achieving a COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough.
Democrats like to characterize themselves as believers in science, but the Biden/Harris campaign is already attempting to cast doubt on a potential vaccine that Donald Trump says may be ready this fall.
In a CNN interview that will air in full on Sunday, Harris indicated that she believes a potential vaccine released this fall will not be safe or effective. CNN’s Dana Bash asked Harris: “Let’s just say there’s a vaccine that is approved and even distributed before the election. Would you get it?”
“Well, I think that’s going to be an issue for all of us,” Harris replied. “I will say that I would not trust Donald Trump… I will not take his word for it.”
Harris did not address the fact that Dr. Anthony Fauci — the nation’s foremost infectious disease expert — denied that Trump has any hand in the approval of a vaccine. Democrats, including CNN, have released multiple reports suggesting that Donald Trump is unsafely rushing the approval of a vaccine in order to influence the election.
Fauci said on Thursday that the reports are untrue, but Democrats ignored the “expert” on this one. “The FDA has been very explicit that they will make a decision based on the data that comes in,” Fauci said.
“Data has always been the thing that has driven me and my colleagues at the NIH as well as the people at the FDA and CDC,” Fauci continued. “They are data-driven organizations, so I think people can feel confident that when data comes in, it will be examined appropriately and a decision will be made.”
Noted expert Kamala Harris disagrees with Fauci, telling Bash that she does not believe that scientists and health officials will have the “last word” on the approval of a vaccine.
“If past is prologue that they will not,” she declared. “They’ll be muzzled, they’ll be suppressed, they will be sidelined because he’s looking at an election coming up in less than 60 days, and he’s grasping for whatever he can get to pretend that he’s been a leader on this issue when he’s not.”
