Millions of Americans are have been forced to watch their children languish as school boards refuse to return them to the classroom — which is by all measures a national crisis. Instead of responding to the crisis, Vice President Kamala Harris was caught on camera laughing about the plight of American parents and students at a recent event.
Social media has responded with questions regarding whether her laughter was appropriate.

Harris has long spoken out about women being negatively impacted by children unable to attend school during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her recent video stands in stark contrast to past statements.
“I think that the pandemic has exposed the failures, the fractures, the fissures that have long existed in our society, and it has made them bigger and more obvious,” she said in a recent USA Today interview.
She added, “Women should not have to be presented with false choices that say, ‘You either have a career or you raise your children.’ They should be able to do both.”
In the new video, her statements appear to take on a new perspective. She noted, “That yeah, affordable child care is a big deal,” followed by extended laughter during a serious issue.
The vice president’s laughter has also been noted as a concern on other occasions. Harris was also caught laughing recently in response to being asked about whether she planned to visit the nation’s southern border soon.
Fox News host Jesse Watters noted her laughing serves as a defense mechanism. He recently hosted psychologist Brian Russell for a segment on the issue.
