Vice President Kamala Harris started the new year with the call for Americans to “get to work” as critics blast her first year in office over multiple failures to do her own job.
“A new year to continue building a better America,” Harris tweeted. “Let’s get to work.”

It’s not the first time the vice president has called on Americans to work their way forward. In November 2020, Harris wrote, “This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden or me. It’s about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started.”

Despite the vice president’s challenge to work, her first year in office has left many questions regarding her own progress. After being tapped to lead the immigration response at the southern border in March, she has made only one brief appearance as the border crisis continues to surge.
As she wrote her most recent post, Harris was still traveling to California.
The words and actions of Harris appear to contradict one another as the vice president struggles to make meaningful progress on the issues of importance to Americans.
