Judge overseeing Donald Trump's case has a long history with the former President

The judge in the case against former President Donald Trump already has a history of ruling against him in other cases, the Daily Wire reported. Trump claims that Juan Merchan, the acting Supreme Court Justice, "hates" him.

The former president surrendered himself at a Manhattan courthouse Tuesday. The media firestorm had already been brewing for days by the time Trump presented himself in front of the judge.

Trump has been charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to payments he made to former porn star Stormy Daniels. In 2016, he allegedly paid off his former paramour to keep her quiet during his presidential run.

This low-level state felony is one of the least serious. However, each conviction would bring four years in jail for Trump, meaning the 76-year-old could be behind bars for the rest of his life.

Getting a conviction in the state is almost a guarantee considering the leftist bent of a New York jury. However, Trump seems to suggest Merchan's spot on the bench could seal the deal if this case is like the ones previously litigated before him.

In the case against the Trump Organization, Merchan found the company guilty on 17 counts of tax evasion. Trump's company was fined $1.6 million -- the maximum allowed by law.

Merchan also convicted Allen Weisselberg, the company's former CEO, who pleaded guilty to 15 criminal charges and was sent to jail for five months. "I believe that a stiffer sentence would be appropriate, having heard the evidence," Merchan said earlier this year.

The former president has gone after Merchan on his Truth Social platform, calling the judge "highly partisan." Trump also claimed Merchan's family is a bunch of "well known Trump haters."

"Fox & Friends" host Steve Doocy chastised the former president for his criticism of the judge, The Hill reported. "It is a very bad look to attack the family," he said Wednesday morning.

Trump has also attacked Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for his politically-motivated decision to indict. Bragg is notoriously soft on violent criminals but is dead set on pursuing charges against the former president.

The former president claimed that Bragg "hand picked" Merchan knowing he "hates" Trump. Others who have come out against Trump include William Barr, his former attorney general.

"When you see RINO’s Karl Rove, Bill Barr, or Paul Ryan on your television screen, just turn to a different station, or turn off your set," Trump wrote Tuesday. "You’re better off watching the Democrats!" he added.

Merchan has barred video cameras from the courtroom, which means anything happening there could be ignored or twisted to fit a media narrative. The chance that Trump gets a fair trial is slim if the political environment means anything.

It was an unprecedented move to indict a former president and current presidential candidate. Whatever happens from here will be a first, and the American people need to be prepared to push back on it.
