Never one to hold back when it comes to warning Americans about what she views as existential threats to our nation, Jeanine Pirro declared during the Saturday episode of her Fox News show that “America as we know it is coming to an end” due to the left’s refusal to crack down on crime.
Citing an alarming increase in lawlessness in cities across the country, Pirro lamented the rapid pace at which she feels American society is changing – and not for the better. Signaling that things may be reaching a point of no return, the prime time host opined, “We are watching it in real-time, but it is moving so quickly, that when it is gone, we won’t be able to predict the exact moment it happened.”
Pirro asked her viewers to consider how far things have already moved away from bedrock principles, adding, “What I fought for in law enforcement for over three decades, what my father and grandfather fought for in World War II, what you and your parents and grandparents fought for is ending. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. How many of us would describe life today as being what our founding father intended?”
Listing cancel culture, Big Tech censorship, and Critical Race Theory in schools as some of the most egregious factors contributing to the erosion of our society, Pirro emphasized that perhaps the most significant threat she sees to the continuity of our system is a shocking rise in crime that she attributes to those on the left who have worked to delegitimize police and who refuse to prosecute criminals.
“But one thing, more than any other, that signals the ruination of a society and trumps all else is crime. When crime is not prosecuted, when criminals are not arrested, lawlessness, anarchy, and chaos result,” Pirro argued.
The former prosecutor took a not-so-veiled swipe at big city prosecutors who believe police are the problem and accused criminals should be treated with greater leniency, adding, “You see, crime not only harms the victim, it visits the loved ones, family, friends, neighbors, and the community at large. Fear becomes generalized. It immobilizes people. On the other hand, criminals are emboldened to continue their rampage.”
In the wake of the 2020 death of George Floyd, the “defund the police” movement took hold of cities across the country, and far-left governors and city councils began transferring resources away from law enforcement at the behest of often-violent protestors. However, the devastating consequences of those decisions did not take long to emerge, and mayors, including Bill de Blasio in New York City and Brandon Scott in Baltimore have recently proposed the reinstatement of funds previously slashed.
Sadly, however, there remain a number of liberal prosecutors – many of whom receive substantial campaign finance support from far-left billionaire George Soros – who refuse to see the writing on the wall in terms of the crime wave gripping the nation, and continue to advocate for policies that exacerbate the problem, including ending cash bail and declining to prosecute supposedly low-level offenses such as drug possession and prostitution.
Though criminal justice reform and police defunding intiatives are favorite causes of the virtue-signaling left, they conveniently ignore the pleas of inner-city Americans, such as those in Detroit, who, according to a new poll, overwhelmingly want more cops on the street. But, of course, preening members of the liberal intelligentsia surely know better than those who suffer from the effects of the often violent, soul-destroying crime that surrounds them daily.
