Judge Engoron extends gag order to cover Donald Trump's legal team

On Friday, the New York judge supervising the civil fraud trial of former President Donald Trump extended his confidentiality order to encompass his attorneys as well.

Regarding "confidential communications" between him and his staff, Judge Arthur Engoron prohibited Trump's attorneys from making "any public comments about court staff" on Friday, as The Daily Caller reported.

The order specifically mentioned such communications. Christopher Kise, Clifford Robert, and Alina Habba, according to Engoron, are members of Trump's legal team.

These individuals have made  “on the record, repeated, inappropriate remarks” regarding his law clerk, where he falsely accused her of prejudice against them and of attempting to influence the ongoing bench trial, as the judge noted.

In early October, Engoron initially imposed a gag order on Trump subsequent to his publication on Truth Social wherein he alluded to Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's "girlfriend," which was Allison Greenfield, Engoron's secretary.

“As I have stated, seemingly to no avail, my law clerks are public servants who are performing their jobs in the manner in which I request,” Engoron wrote in the order Friday.

“This includes providing legal authority and opinions, as well as responding to questions I pose to them.”

Trump has been fined $5,000 and $10,000 for breaking his gag order twice now. The first was for 17 days of inaction in which the Truth Social post remained on his campaign website, and the second was for statements he made to reporters outside the courtroom in which he described the individual sitting next to Engoron as "very partisan."

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), a Democrat, stated that the imposed restrictions are "illegal and unconstitutional," as Breitbart reported. Stefanik contended that an open display of political bias against Trump and his attorneys has no place in the judicial system, as Breitbart News reported.

“It's unconstitutional and illegal to put a GAG order on President Trump and his legal team,” the lawmaker began.

Stefanik continued, “The Far Left Judge's clerk is a major Democrat donor and operative who has apparently donated more than the yearly limit for a New York Judge's staff member.”

“It is illegal and un-American for the Leftist Judge in NY to order that President Trump and his legal team can't raise issues about the Judge's biased law clerk -- especially when it is very obvious that she is playing an integral role in this case,” Stefanik went on.

Speaking to even broader concerns, the congresswoman added, “This is a dangerous pattern by Democrats across the country to try to muzzle any defendant -- let alone the leading Presidential candidate who is leading in all the polls against corrupt Joe Biden.”

“Republicans must join together to fight back against the unprecedented and illegal weaponization of Government against President Trump. I will do everything in my power as the Republican House Conference Chair to stop this madness,” she concluded.
