Democrats typically circle the wagons for one of their own. However, President Joe Biden has been such an unmitigated disaster for the economy that even Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) is speaking out against him.
Manchin called inflation the “number one enemy” and criticized Biden for his inaction on the energy crisis, Breitbart reported. The Senator made these remarks while speaking to reporters Tuesday.
“We’ve got to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to fight inflation. It’s the number one enemy we have,” Manchin said.
INFLATION: Sen. Manchin tells me “We’ve got to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to fight inflation, it’s number one enemy we have” and tells CNN the Biden Administration has not done enough “I think there’s a lot more we can do. I really do.” pic.twitter.com/4JBojKcoqZ

Manchin was asked whether he thought Biden had “given up” on combating high gas prices, and Manchin said he “hopes not” and alluded to solving the problem by producing more. Biden has banned Russian imports on top of other measures like blocking the Keystone XL pipeline and domestic drilling, which compounds the problem.
“We’ve got to get back in action,” Manchin said. “We’ve got to do everything that we can to have confidence that we’re going to produce the energy that we need in our country to defend [ourselves], keep ourselves strong, get these prices back down, and be able to defend our allies.”
As for the question of whether Biden has “done enough” to stem the tide of inflation, Manchin tried to deflect with the promise of a statement to be issued later. When CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Manu Raju pressed him on the matter, Manchin admitted Biden’s shortcomings.
“No, I think there’s a lot more we can do. I really do,” the West Virginia Democrat replied. “We have got to get back to the leasing process so people have stability, they understand that we’re going to be in this game for a while. We can walk and chew gum,” Manchin assured Raju.
“That means you can basically provide the energy that the country needs — the horsepower you receive from fossil, you don’t receive that horsepower from renewables, not yet,” Manchin added. “We get hydrogen going, we get other things going…geothermal and all that, we can. We’re going to get there. But we’re not there yet. So, you’ve got to make sure you take care of what you have to take care of.”
Biden has not done anything that would be productive toward solving either crisis. When other Democrats are starting to acknowledge it, that’s never a good sign.
