The finger-pointing has begun now that Russia is on the warpath. President Joe Biden has turned against Vice President Kamala Harris, but there’s enough blame to go around.
Biden directly contradicted Harris’ previous claims that sanctions against Russia would prevent an invasion into Ukraine, Breitbart reported. Just days before, Harris had made that exact assertion to the press.
“The purpose of the sanctions has always been and continues to be deterrence,” Harris told reporters earlier this week. When a reporter pressed her on whether she thought they’d be effective at preventing an invasion, the vice president said, “Absolutely, we strongly believe [it],” Harris said.
Now that Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent his military forces into Ukraine and has taken over the Chernobyl nuclear plant site, Biden claimed it was well known that diplomacy wouldn’t work. “No one expected the sanctions to prevent anything from happening,” Biden told reporters Thursday.

However, Biden didn’t just contradict his vice president. National security adviser Jake Sullivan had told the press on Feb. 11 that “the President believes that sanctions are intended to deter,” meaning he also has contradicted himself.
Sanctions are mostly useless, especially to leaders like Putin. Still, leftists try them along with some strongly-worded statements that are supposed to deter our adversaries.
At least former President Donald Trump had the foresight to call out the administration Tuesday for such a weak strategy. “Russia has become very very rich during the Biden Administration, with oil prices doubling and soon to be tripling and quadrupling,” he pointed out. “The weak sanctions are insignificant relative to taking over a country and a massive piece of strategically located land,” Trump said.
Now that Russia is on the offensive, the administration is scrambling to deflect from the blame. Biden is lying and has betrayed his vice president to provide himself cover, but there’s more than enough blame to go around.
