Joe Biden says he is "proud of" Hunter Biden, downplays serious scandals

President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden is a wreck of a man. However, it seems his powerful father is still running interference for him.

Joe Biden told CNN's Jake Tapper he is "proud of" his son Hunter when asked for his thoughts on the younger Biden's possible criminal conviction, the Conservative Brief reported. Hunter Biden has been under investigation for tax and other legal troubles.

"Our reporting, CNN's reporting, and The Washington Post reporting suggests that prosecutors think they could — they have enough, to charge your son, Hunter, for tax crimes, and a false statement about a gun purchase," Tapper said during an interview with the president. "Personally and politically, how do you react to that?"

"Well, first of all, I'm proud of my son," Joe Biden said. "This is a kid, who got — not a kid, he's a grown man. And he got hooked on, like many families have had happened, hooked on drugs," he added.

"He's overcome that. He's established a new life," the president said. "He is, I'm confident that he is — what he says, and does, are consistent with what happens. And, for example, he wrote a book about his problems and was straightforward about it. I'm proud of him," Joe Biden said of Hunter Biden.

He went on to talk about the application Hunter Biden made for a firearm despite his drug problems. "You get asked the question, 'Are you on drugs? You use drugs?' He said, 'No.' And he wrote about saying 'No,' in his book," Joe Biden said.

Tapper confirmed that his son indeed admitted as much in his book, "Beautiful Things" published last year. "So, I have great confidence in my son. I love him," the president said.

"And he's on the straight and narrow, and he has been, for a couple years now," Joe Biden claimed. "And I'm just so proud of him."

Hunter Biden has had a checkered past. While it's great for families to stick together, it's unnerving when the president is still covering for his adult son as he's on the brink of being prosecuted.
