President Joe Biden has reportedly been abruptly forced to withdraw the nomination of Elizabeth Klein as deputy secretary of the Department of the Interior after objections from Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).
Klein is a former Obama administration official and deputy director of the State Energy and Environmental Impact Center at the New York University School of Law. Her progressive views on clean energy were considered too strong for Murkowski, whose state relies heavily on the oil industry.
