Joe Biden pledges to prevent Medicare cuts, but he is currently cutting Medicare Advantage

During his State of the Union address on Tuesday evening, President Joe Biden promised to stop anyone who tried to cut Medicare, but his administration is currently pushing to cut billions of dollars from Medicare Advantage.

Budget cuts have been at the heart of the debate over how to deal with the debt ceiling, and Republicans have denied allegations that they are planning to cut Medicare or Social Security, as The Daily Caller reported.

According to Axios, the Biden administration is planning to cut $4.7 billion from Medicare Advantage, an increasingly popular alternative to traditional Medicare, from 2023 to 2032.

The mainstream media allowed Biden to get away with gargantuan lies during his State of the Union address,” Republican Oklahoma Rep. Kevin Hern told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“He refused to take the blame for his failures, and instead railed against Republicans (who spent the last four years in the minority) for everything from inflation to cutting Medicare. The fact is, just last week the Biden Administration cut Medicare programs by administrative fiat. These cuts will impact millions of seniors.”

“We will not cut Medicare,” Biden said in his Tuesday speech. “If anyone tries to cut Social Security — which apparently they’re not going to do — and if anyone tries, and Medicare, I’ll stop them. I’ll veto it.”

According to Axios, the Biden administration's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced Jan. 30 that it plans to conduct audits and recoup funds from overpayments to insurance programs dating back to 2011, totaling $4.7 billion.

According to Kaiser Health News, CMS proposed $3 billion in Medicare Advantage cuts on Feb. 1 as part of an effort to change the way insurance companies record their data; insurance companies would receive less money from Medicare Advantage for certain diagnoses.

Republican Texas Rep. Brian Babin said Biden's actions "gutted" Medicare Advantage.

The president also asserted that "Every day, millions need insulin to control their diabetes so they can stay alive. Insulin has been around for 100 years. It costs drug companies just $10 a vial to make. But, Big Pharma has been unfairly charging people hundreds of dollars – and making record profits.

"Not anymore," Biden said. "We capped the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors on Medicare. But there are millions of other Americans who are not on Medicare, including 200,000 young people with Type I diabetes who need insulin to save their lives."

Former President Donald Trump asserted that Biden was taking credit for things done during his administration.
