Joe Biden hypocritically orders Chinese travelers to show negative COVID test

Politico reports that President Joe Biden has ordered those traveling from China to the United States to provide negative COVID-19 tests.

Many, in response, are now slamming Biden for being a hypocrite, recalling comments that he made back in 2020 in response to COVID restrictions that then-President Donald Trump had placed on Chinese travelers.

To refresh your memory, Trump, in January 2020, implemented travel restrictions on travelers from China in an effort to slow down the spread of the COVID pandemic.

Several months later, in May 2020, Biden, who at the time was still only a presidential candidate, sought to politically capitalize on the situation.

Biden, speaking to the Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Victory Fund, did so by claiming that Trump's COVID response was nothing but "denials, delays, and distractions, many of which were nakedly xenophobic."

Biden said:

The pandemic has unleashed familiar forces of hate, fear and xenophobia that he always flames … that have always existed in this society. But this president brought it with him, has brought with it a new rash of racial messages, verbal and physical attacks, and other acts of hate, some subtle, some overt, against the Asian American and Pacific Islanders.

Biden would continue this messaging for some time.

In July 2020, for example, Biden publicly called Trump a racist, saying, "We’ve had racists, and they’ve existed, they’ve tried to get elected president. He’s the first one that has."

It's never too long, though, before a Democrat contradicts himself, supporting or condemning the very thing that he once condemned or supported. And, that's what Biden is now doing.

Politico reports:

The Biden administration announced new testing requirements Wednesday for travelers coming to the U.S. from China — a response to soaring Covid infections in China and a sign of increased worry about the potential emergence of new variants.

"Beginning Jan. 5, anyone older than 2 years old arriving from China, Hong Kong, or Macau will need to show a negative result from a Covid-19 test taken within two days of their flight," the outlet adds.

Then, perhaps anticipating the charges of hypocrisy that Biden is facing, Politico writes, "the requirement applies to all passengers regardless of nationality or vaccination status, those connecting through other countries, and people transferring through U.S. airports to other destinations."

The Biden administration has yet to respond to the claims of hypocrisy that have followed Biden's new COVID restriction on travelers from China.

As always with the Democrats, it likely all comes down to one thing, namely, political expediency.
