President Joe Biden has ruined much of American life from the top down. At least there’s a chance he’ll pay for one of his worst blunders.
Acting Inspector General Diana Shaw is investigating Biden’s handling of the crisis he created in his withdrawal from Afghanistan, Breitbart reported. The State Department probe will examine many facets of the debacle, including refugee concerns and the botched evacuation strategy.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken was notified in a memo Friday and the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Senate Foreign Relations Committee were alerted to these “several oversight projects” in a letter Monday. “Given the elevated interest in this work by Congress and the unique circumstances requiring coordination across the Inspector General community, I wanted to notify our committees of jurisdiction of this important work,” Shaw said.
However, Shaw’s office demurred from calling the probe an actual investigation. “State OIG notified its committees of jurisdiction today of planned projects in the areas you mention,” Shaw’s spokesman, Ryan Holden, told Politico.
“This work will be conducted in coordination with other members of the IG community. However, it is inaccurate to say that these projects are investigations,” Holden added. “We indicated to Congress that these projects will be reviews.”
Call it what you will, but the State Department is adding to the mounting pressure on the Biden administration to be held accountable for the botched plan in Afghanistan. The House Foreign Affairs Committee and Senate Foreign Relations Committee have already launched their own investigations as have other inspectors general offices.
Many things in politics can be swept under the rug, but what Biden created pulling American troops away from a war they were winning is too expansive and too severe to ignore. Republicans called it an “unmitigated disaster” for the way he allowed the Taliban to retake the country and once again pose a terror threat to the world — all after assuring that none of this would happen, Reuters reported.
Biden has botched the COVID-19 response and ruined the economy in his short time in office. However, he deserves to pay for the worst blunder — the crisis he created in Afghanistan. The best option for the nation would be immediate impeachment after the investigation is concluded.
