Joe Biden dubiously claims there is growing 'optimism' about the economy

President Joe Biden just claimed that Americans "are starting to feel a sense of optimism" about the U.S. economy thanks to his administration's "achievements."

Biden claimed on Tuesday during a visit to a site in Phoenix, Arizona, where a computer chip plant is being constructed by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.

There, Biden said:

What I’m most excited about is people are starting to feel a sense of optimism as they see the impact of the achievements in their own lives. It’s going to accelerate in the months ahead and it’s part of a broad story about the economy we’re building that works for everyone.

Biden appears to have been trying to make the claim that the so-called economic "optimism" stems from investments such as this investment in this computer chip plant.

The Washington Post reports:

Biden has staked his legacy in large part on major investments in technology and infrastructure that were approved by Congress along bipartisan lines. The Democratic president maintains that the factory jobs fostered by $52 billion in semiconductor investments and another $200 billion for scientific research will help to revive the U.S. middle class.

Ronnie Chatterji, the White House coordinator for the chip investments, is reported as saying: "Ten years from now we'll be talking about all the jobs in Arizona. You won't be able to talk about that part of Arizona without thinking about the impact of those companies."

That's the official narrative - that the Democrats' actions are going to lead to a great economy. Many dispute this notion.

Even the Post admits that the benefits from the computer chip plant "could take a decade or longer to come to full fruition" and that "companies could face a challenge in finding educated workers for jobs with incomes averaging over $100,000 a year."

It is also unclear where Biden got the idea that Americans are growing increasingly optimistic about the economy as a result of such "achievements."

The Associated Press - a left-leaning outlet - just released a new poll, and it does not back up Biden's claim.

The outlet reports:

As in recent months, the new poll shows only a quarter of U.S. adults say economic conditions are good, while three-quarters call them bad. Nine in 10 Republicans, along with about 6 in 10 Democrats, say the economy is in bad shape. Ratings of the economy have soured amid record-high inflation, even as Biden touts falling gas prices and a low unemployment rate at 3.7%.

Perhaps, Biden thinks that if he keeps telling the American people that they are "optimistic" about the economy, some will become optimistic about it.

However, there doesn't appear to be any real evidence to support the president's claim.
