The narrative about Border Patrol agents whipping refugees has proven to be patently false. However, that hasn’t stopped President Joe Biden from using it against them.
Biden threatened to make the agents “pay” for their conduct even as the narrative had been debunked, the Daily Wire reported. Now Border Patrol agents are outraged and worried for their future.
“To see people treated like they did? Horses running them over? People being strapped? It’s outrageous,” Biden said Friday even as it was apparent that wasn’t what was really happening. “I promise you those people will pay. There will be consequences.”
“It’s dangerous, it’s wrong. It sends the wrong message around the world, it sends the wrong message at home. It’s simply not who we are,” the president added.
Border Patrol agents, who risk their lives as the first line of protection against illegal immigrants, were angry at this rhetoric and the consequences it would bring. “Would you go to work and do your best knowing that if you do your boss is going to ‘make you pay?’” an agent said on Fox News.
“I’m dumbfounded and don’t know what to say,” he added. “Is the president threatening to throw us in prison?” Another agent said the Biden administration “wants to fry our agents. He just started a war with Border Patrol.”
Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, said it’s demoralizing to be “vilified by the president” and makes agents not want to do their job. “Why put on that uniform? Why care about the American public?”
However, Judd said these individuals do it because they “care about the American public” even though the president doesn’t respect them. “We want to go out there and we want to protect them. And Joe Biden is trying to break that down.” He later added, “If President Biden wasn’t the president right now, I would arrest him for aiding and abetting.”
This fake scandal built on a false narrative is destructive to morale and dangerous to the men and women who serve on Border Patrol. Biden is using them as pawns to score political points, indifferent to the fact that he’s putting them in harm’s way.
