Joe Biden announces he intends to tour the U.S.-Mexico border

Two years after taking office, President Joe Biden announced his "intention" to tour the U.S.-Mexico border, the Daily Wire reported. This news comes as the nation continues to grapple with record illegal immigration.

Biden was set to speak about infrastructure at the Brent Spence Bridge in Kentucky Wednesday. After arriving at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, members of the press queried him about the border and whether he would be visiting the area.

"We’re working out the details now," Biden claimed. The president is planning to travel to Mexico next week, which will provide a natural opportunity for a tour, according to Fox News.

Perhaps Biden will finally see for himself the problem he allowed to mushroom since taking office in 2021. Just last week, a new record was set for the period from October through December when Border Patrol recorded more than 600,000 encounters with illegals.

Moreover, border crossings are increasing while apprehensions and deportations are dropping in stark contrast to the trends under former President Donald Trump's tenure. The administration has done nothing substantive to stem the tide of border crossers.

Biden made a half-hearted effort when he appointed Vice President Kamala Harris to the task early in his presidency. The only solution Harris ever offered was to identify and address the "root causes" bringing people across the border, The Hill reported.

Predictably, that approach did exactly nothing to stop illegal immigration. However, her failure to lift a finger compounded an existing public relations problem, especially after her blatant lies to NBC's Lester Holt about visiting the border

When pressed about why she hadn't visited the border since being charged with fixing the problems there, Harris attempted to deflect with her usual lack of finesse. "We’ve been to the border," she claimed at the time.

"So this whole thing about the border. We’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border," Harris repeated.

"You haven’t been to the border," Holt replied. Harris laughed it off and replied, "And I haven't been to Europe."

Biden's trip to Mexico is certainly warranted, but as his critics have pointed out, it's been too long coming. "If press reports are accurate, I’m pleased President Biden will finally visit our southern border - which has been completely surrendered to the cartels, smugglers, and human traffickers," Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) pointed out.

The official Twitter account for Senate Republicans expressed a similar sentiment. "Biden’s open border policies created a record-breaking crisis at the Southern Border — and it is only getting worse," the account tweeted.

"Only two years late in getting to the border," Nile Gardiner of the Heritage Foundation said. "Joe Biden is quite possibly the laziest and most clueless president in US history."

Biden and the Democrats have turned a blind eye as the border situation worsens. A visit to the border is nothing but window dressing for an administration intent on allowing all comers into the nation.
