Jill Biden’s free community college is dead with “Build Back Better” bill defeated

Democrats made dire predictions about the catastrophe to come if President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” legislation wasn’t passed. However, it seems like killing the bill was a win for fiscal responsibility — even if makes leftists unhappy.

The failure to pass Biden’s legislation means that free community college for all is now off the table, the Daily Caller reported. This was a pet cause of first lady Jill Biden who is an English professor at a community college.

“One year ago, I told this group that Joe, my husband Joe, was going to fight for community colleges,” the former first lady told the Community College National Legislative Summit in Washington Monday. “But Joe has also had to make compromises,” Jill Biden added.

“Congress hasn’t passed the Build Back Better legislation — yet,” the first lady went on. “And free community college is no longer a part of that package.”

Democrats have been backing off of the issue with even Jill Biden admitting it isn’t the “right time” to pass something like that. The president similarly hinted for months that the provision would likely be scrapped.

“We knew this wouldn’t be easy,” Jill Biden said. “Still, like you, I was disappointed. Because, like you, these aren’t just bills or budgets to me, to you, right? We know what they mean for real people, for our students,” she added.

“It was a real lesson in human nature that some people just don’t get that,” the first lady lamented. However, it’s clear that this goodie is unpopular among the politicians charged with putting their careers on the line to vote for this legislation. The president ran into trouble with Democratic defectors Sen. Joe Manchin and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), forcing him to pare down the bloated bill.

Promising free community college is just another attempt to buy votes with taxpayer dollars. Education in America is already a money pit that yields lackluster results, so there’s no reason to think taxpayer-funded public education through college will be any better.
