Jen Psaki: Criticism of incendiary Biden voting rights speech ‘hilarious’

After President Joe Biden delivered an angry speech in which he likened the millions of Americans who oppose Democrat-backed electoral reform measures to notorious segregationists of the past, White House press secretary Jen Psaki shockingly rubbed further salt in the national wound by dismissing criticism of the inflammatory rhetoric as “hilarious,” as Fox News reports.

The president traveled to Atlanta on Tuesday and demanded a change to Senate filibuster rules in order to facilitate passage of the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, as NBC News noted.

Telling the assembled audience, “I am tired of being quiet,” Biden proceeded to suggest that anyone who stands in the way of what would amount to a sweeping federal takeover of elections was no different than some of the most controversial – if not reviled – figures from the country’s past civil rights struggles.

“So I ask every elected official in America, how do you want to be remembered? Do you want to be on the side of Dr. [Martin Luther] King [Jr.] or [former Alabama Gov.] George Wallace? Do you want to be on the side of [late Dem. Rep.] John Lewis or [former Birmingham, Alabama public safety commissioner and outspoken segregationist] Bull Connor?” Biden bellowed.

In response to the president’s hyperbolic and downright antagonistic remarks, Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) deemed the speech “profoundly unpresidential” and blasted Biden for having “called millions of Americans his domestic enemies.”

McConnell continued his expression of outrage, saying, “Look, I’ve known, liked, and personally respected Joe Biden for many years. I did not recognize the man at the podium yesterday.”

Fox News host Tucker Carlson added his voice to the chorus condemning Biden’s speech, saying that it was all about badgering and shaming the electorate into compliance and rhetorically asking, “How would you be bullied? You know the answer. The fastest way to bully Americans, other than by scaring them with viruses, is to call them racist. So, of course, that’s precisely what the Democratic Party is doing right now.”

Even far-left Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin (IL) indicated that Biden “went a little too far in his rhetoric” in Atlanta and MSNBC’s Al Sharpton characterized the remarks as a “you’re going to hell” speech rather than one likely to attract voter support, but back at the White House, Psaki was having none of it, saying such objections were “hilarious on many levels,” given how many people sat silently over the last four years of the former president.”

As has been par for the course over the past year, rather than addressing legitimate scrutiny of the statements and decisions made by Biden, Psaki took the coward’s way out yet again and embarrassingly defaulted to the disingenuous “orange man bad” defense that is her stock in trade.
