The Biden administration is taking full advantage of the national distraction that is the second impeachment of Donald Trump and is quietly confirming many of the worst fears of GOP voters.
Gun control is an issue that has largely faded to the background over the last four years, thanks to Trump. However, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed on Thursday that jumpstarting a strong assault on the second amendment is one of Biden’s top priorities now that he’s in control of Washington.
Psaki opened Thursday’s press conference by announcing that Biden is making progress in implementing his “ambitious plan to make our community safer” — code for disarming the American people.
The White House spokeswoman added that senior Biden aides met with gun control organizations on Wednesday to discuss their “shared goals,” though she declined to detail what those goals are.
“Gun violence may not be in the headlines today, or right now, but gun violence continues to fracture American communities and American families every single day,” Psaki continued, indicating that the lack of press coverage and political will won’t stop Biden from forging ahead.
“We know gun violence in our cities disproportionately effects black and brown individuals. Last month we also saw a near-record increase in gun sales,” she said. “We look forward to working with gun violence survivors and advocates and sharing more in the weeks and months ahead about our efforts to make our communities safer.”
The topic of gun control comes up frequently in Psaki’s public appearances. She told NBC’s Peter Alexander last week that Biden is “personally committed” to “taking on” the National Rifle Association and gun control in general.
“I think he would love to see action on additional gun safety measures to protect families and children,” Psaki added.
Psaki is correct — there is little buzz about Biden’s plans for federal policy regarding gun control, and with a Democrat-controlled legislature and White House, the timing has never been better for a radical attack on the second amendment.
