A Democrat member of the House committee that claims to be “investigating” the Capitol protest of Jan. 6, 2021, appears to have had a change of heart.
According to Breitbart News, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a member of the committee, is now claiming that criminally prosecuting former President Donald Trump is not his “principal interest.”
Raskin made the claim during an appearance Sunday on ABC’s This Week. There, he was asked whether he would “be disappointed if the Justice Department does not file charges against Donald Trump?”
“You know, the – I have to tell you, speaking for myself, that is not my principal interest,” Raskin responded.
That’s quite a change for the guy who, in February, promised that “Trump will get his comeuppance,” by which he meant that Trump would face criminal liability for the events of Jan. 6, 2021.
Raskin, here, is also departing from some of his fellow Jan. 6 committee co-members. This includes Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who just recently called for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to, at the very least, launch an investigation into Trump.
So, if seeing Trump criminally prosecuted is not Raskin’s “principal interest” – if it is not the reason why he and his fellow committee members are continuing with this Jan. 6 charade – then what is?
“So, for me, I’m principally interested in telling the American people the truth so we can fortify our institution against coops and insurrections going forward,” Raskin said.
It sounds more like Raskin knows that his Jan. 6 charade isn’t working and that he is trying to salvage something ahead of the midterm elections.
