Jan 6. Committee fourth hearing opens with complaints about protests

The fourth public hearing about the Jan. 6 committee opened Tuesday with complaints about protests at the homes of elected officials.

According to a report by Breitbart News, the committee held silent about protests at the homes of Supreme Court justices that have increased to the point of having to add security for families of the justices.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) criticized then-President Donald Trump for not denouncing the 2020 protesters, failing to mention that the Biden White House expressly encouraged such demonstrations, in violation of the law, outside the houses of Supreme Court justices.

In addition, Biden has never directly denounced the attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s life. Biden’s denunciation came through a White House spokesperson, despite an attempt to the contrary by a White House official.

The committee’s objective was to outline Trump’s and his associates’ efforts to persuade state legislatures to convene hearings on claims of election fraud in the 2020 election and to produce backup slates of electors in case the first ones were rejected.

These, according to Schiff and committee employees, were a “fake electors scheme.” The Trump team did, however, produce backup slates of electors in case the results were disputed in the House, as Breitbart News reported at the time.

They adhered to a historical standard established during the heated discussion around the 1876 presidential election. Even if some contested states had their Electoral College votes denied, they feared that they would be caught off guard or without any options.

The committee previously said that despite their persistent push for more information about the Jan. 6 protests, it will not be making criminal recommendations to the Department of Justice.
