Ivanka Trump on her father's indictment: 'I am pained'

Fox News reports that Ivanka Trump, on Friday, released a statement in which she said that she is "pained" about her father's indictment.

Friday was the day after the news broke that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and the grand jury that he convened have decided to indict former President Donald Trump.

At the time of this writing, the indictment remains sealed. And so, the specific charges that Trump will face remain unclear.

The Associated Press, however, has published a report citing "two people familiar with the matter” as revealing that “Trump is facing multiple charges of falsifying business records, including at least one felony offense.”

Still, the specifics of the charges - including whatever evidence Bragg might have against Trump, if any - remain unknown.

Trump, in the meantime, has maintained his innocence. He insists that he has done nothing wrong and that Bragg's motivations in indicting him are purely political - a proposition that many experts - including experts who align to the left, politically - agree with.

Ivanka Trump responded to her father's indictment with a brief but meaningful statement on Friday.

"I love my father, and I love my country. Today, I am pained for both," she wrote. "I appreciate the voices across the political spectrum expressing support and concern."

Ivanka Trump has good reason to be "pained" for her country as many are arguing that the indictment of Trump is the sort of thing that very well could lead to the end of America.

The argument is that Bragg, here, is turning America into a third-world country by doing what third-world countries led by tyrants do, namely, use the law to persecute their political opposition.

Until Bragg proves otherwise - until he proves that he does have legitimate evidence against Trump, evidence to justify his unprecedented impeachment of a former president and current presidential frontrunner - this appears to be exactly what is happening.

Trump is expected to be arraigned in a New York City court on Tuesday. Trump's lawyers say that Trump will plead "not guilty" to the charges that have been brought against him.

Reports also indicate that Trump and his legal team have reached a deal with the Manhattan Districts Attorney's office such that Trump will not be placed in handcuffs. It does appear, however, that a mugshot will be taken.

After the arraignment proceedings on Tuesday, it is expected that Trump will return to Florida until his next court appearance.
