Ivana Trump was investigated by the FBI for links to her native Czechoslovakia

According to recently uncovered records, the late first wife of former President Donald Trump, Ivana Trump, was the subject of an FBI counterintelligence investigation based on claims regarding her links to her home nation of Czechoslovakia.

According to a 190-page document given by a law enforcement agency on Monday in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by Bloomberg, the FBI in 1989 suggested "a preliminary investigation be initiated on Ivana Trump" based on information provided by a confidential source, according to The Washington Examiner.

Unknown was the motivation for the FBI's investigation of Ivana Trump, which engaged the counterintelligence section and lasted at least two years. The paper has a section claiming that "it is uncertain if the charges arise from jealousy of her fortune and celebrity"; however, the remainder of this investigation has been suppressed.

There is no allegation of misconduct against her in the filing. Several sections of the lengthy document were censored by the FBI due to national security, privacy, and law enforcement issues.

Ivana Trump was born in former Czechoslovakia in 1949; she fled the communist country in 1971 after marrying an Austrian ski instructor, whom she divorced the following year after acquiring Austrian citizenship. Afterward, she relocated to New York and California, where she worked as a model.

She met Donald Trump in New York in 1976, and they wed in April 1977. Donald Trump Jr., their first child, was born around eight months later. Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump's first daughter, was born in 1981, and Eric Trump, their second child, was born in 1984.

After the future president's romance with his second wife, Marla Maples, the pair divorced by the end of the 1980s and were well-known in New York City culture.

FBI agents who examined court documents pertaining to the couple's divorce were able to glean some information due to the public's interest in the divorce.

A "very confidential and credible source" informed FBI investigators that Ivana Trump was in Czechoslovakia on June 4, 1990, when the country's former president gave her a signed book.

When Donald Trump was elected president, the Prague Daily Monitor ran an article about Ivana Trump not supporting dissidents or exiles under the communist government, stating, "This may explain the FBI's interest in her visit to the nation."

The previous president is not a prominent topic in the FBI file, however, he is addressed in one line citing a "Trump" magazine story from January 16, 1989.

In the 1990s, Ivana Trump was a popular socialite and entrepreneur whose lifestyle exemplified luxury and excess. As the ex-wife of billionaire businessman Donald Trump, Melania continued to live a luxury lifestyle and was frequently spotted in New York City at high-profile events.

Ivana has entered the fashion industry by starting her own clothing line and writing a book on beauty and style. Notwithstanding her divorce from Donald Trump in 1992, Ivana remained a prominent member of New York society and her luxurious lifestyle and business endeavors continued to generate headlines.

In July 2022, at the age of 73, Ivana Trump died from a fall at her New York residence.
