Irish teacher jailed, suspended for refusing to use student's preferred pronouns

A teacher in Ireland was taken to jail for refusing to obey a court order after refusing to use a student's preferred pronouns.

Enoch Burke was suspended from Wilson Hospital School after refusing to refer to a student as "they," noting it opposed his religious beliefs.

"Burke was arrested Monday at the school after ignoring the suspension and appearing on campus. The teacher told the court it was 'insanity' that he was being sent to jail," the Washington Examiner reported.

"It is insanity that I will be led from this courtroom to a place of incarceration, but I will not give up my Christian beliefs," Burke said after the ruling, according to the report.

The arrest and jailing were based on Burke appearing on campus to teach after his suspension.

The teacher's concerning situation has Americans concerned that similar problems could arise in our own nation as the Biden administration seeks to expand Title IX rights to include transgender rights.
