New York Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin called for the removal of Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Monday after the congresswomen compared the Israel with the terrorist group Hamas.
Zeldin, a Jew, made the announcement after a dozen of Omar’s fellow Democrat House members issued a public statement against her words.
The congressman tweeted, “Ilhan Omar must be removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. She should have never been appointed to this Committee in the first place.”

Omar doubled down on her remarks after the Democrat statement in a post on Thursday. “It’s shameful for colleagues who call me when they need my support to now put out a statement asking for ‘clarification’ and not just call,” she said.

The islamophobic tropes in this statement are offensive. The constant harassment & silencing from the signers of this letter is unbearable. https://t.co/37dy2UduW0

Zeldin’s call takes the Democrat statement one step beyond criticism to a call for action. He has challenged Congress to remove her from a major committee as punishment for her outspoken anti-Israel views.
Democrats may agree with Zeldin’s concern, but not his recommendation. With only a raz0r-thin advantage over Republicans in the House, the Left is unlikely to give up any opportunity to remain in power.
