A coalition of Republican Congressmen are demanding that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) nominee investigate Hunter Biden for an alleged crime involving the purchase of a gun — an investigation that could end in criminal charges for the troubled younger Biden.
“I write to ask that you publicly commit to investigate allegations that Hunter Biden falsified information during a background check in order to illegally obtain a firearm should you be confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF),” Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) wrote in a letter to Biden’s nominee for ATF Director, as reported by the Daily Caller.
The letter included the signatures of 24 House Republicans, including Good.
In 2018, Hunter Biden allegedly claimed he had never used illegal substances on firearm background check. Five years earlier, however, he had been discharged from the Navy Reserve for illegal drug use, according to Politico.
The letter claimed, “Since lying on a background check form is a felony, this allegation merits an investigation.”
Biden’s ATF nominee is David Chipman. He served as an ATF special agent for 25 years.
Chipman works as a senior policy adviser at Giffords, “an organization that advocates for stricter gun laws and is led by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords,” according to NPR.
Chipman’s nomination remains to be confirmed. He will be unable to pursue the recommendations in the Republican House letter until that time.
