House Republicans subpoena banks in Biden family investigation

Fox News reports that the Republican-led House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed several banks for financial records related to their investigation of President Joe Biden and his family's business dealings.

Per the outlet:

Fox News has confirmed that the Oversight Committee subpoenaed Bank of America, Cathay Bank, JPMorgan Chase, and HSBC USA N.A., as well as former Hunter Biden business associate Mervyn Yan, asking for financial records.

This comes after U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) - the ranking member of the Oversight Committee - recently revealed the lengths that House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and his fellow Republicans are going to investigate the Biden family.

Raskin made the revelation in a memo that he sent to other Democrats. The memo indicated that Comer and the Republicans, with regard to their investigation, have sent out six subpoenas and 39 letters.

Fox has now confirmed the subpoenas.

But, the issue that Raskin, in the memo, appeared to take with all of this is that the Republicans are conducting the investigation "behind a veil of secrecy," which, according to Raskin, is a violation of the Committee's tradition.

"Committee Republicans’ decision to conduct this probe behind a veil of secrecy runs counter to the Committee’s traditional commitment to transparency and raises serious questions about the integrity of the investigation," Rasking wrote.

Raskin also claims that Comer and the Republicans have been withholding evidence and misleading the public with regard to the investigation into the Biden family's business dealings.

Raskin wrote:

Despite this massive investment of time and resources, Republican efforts on this and other congressional committees have failed to yield any evidence of misconduct by President Biden. Nevertheless, Chairman Comer has issued six document subpoenas for financial records as part of this renewed investigation, several of which have been based on information Committee Republicans know to be false.

Comer, in response, has accused Raskin of trying to undermine the Republicans' investigation.

Comer said:

Ranking Member Raskin has again disclosed Committee’s subpoenas in a cheap attempt to thwart cooperation from other witnesses. Given his antics with the first bank subpoena, the American people and media should be asking what information Ranking Member Raskin is trying to hide this time. No one should be fooled by Ranking Member Raskin’s games. We have the bank records, and the facts are not good for the Biden family.

Comer's statement would appear to suggest that at least some of the banks have cooperated with the Republicans' request for access to financial records related to the Biden family.

Which banks have done so, though, is unclear.

Fox, though, has confirmed that Cathay Bank will comply.
