A group of House Republicans sent a letter on Thursday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) demanding that all members of Congress be allowed to attend President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address in person.
The address is scheduled for Mar. 1, the latest date ever announced for a State of the Union address, with only 25 members per party invited.
“I urge Speaker Pelosi to immediately reverse any decision to limit attendance amongst Members of Congress and to ensure our constitutionally obligated functions can be fulfilled,” the letter read.

Previous reports have noted only 200 total people will be allowed in attendance at the event. All people will be required to be fully masked.

The strict guidelines come as even more Democrat leaders are rolling back restrictions nationwide. The limitations look more like political protection than health protection, shielding Biden from embarrassment due to the potential for gaffes in his speeches as in past events.
There is still time for change, and it will be interesting to see how Pelosi and Biden respond to the new effort to have all Congress members attend in person.
