House J6 Committee says Trump 'no longer obligated to comply' with subpoena

Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson (D) had to be the face of a jagged little pill swallowed by the entirety of the House January 6 Committee this week, as it was announced that a subpoena issued to former President Donald Trump was no longer valid.

The news of the J6 Committee dropping the subpoena came via a letter sent by Thompson to one of Trump's attorneys, according to the Daily Caller.

"In light of the imminent end of our investigation, the Select Committee can no longer pursue the specific information covered by the subpoena," the letter read.

It added: "Therefore, through this letter, I hereby formally withdraw the subpoena issued to former President Trump, and notify you that he is no longer obligated to comply or produce records in response to said subpoena."

The House J6 Committee originally issued the subpoena for Trump to testify in October. After taking a series of legal actions, Trump's attorneys were able to successfully sue to block it while it awaited further litigation.

Trump's attorneys at the time called the J6 investigation and the issued subpoena "illegal, unfounded, and overbroad records request."

The former president took a victory lap this week upon learning that the committee was forced to surrender its goal to get Trump to testify.

"Was just advised that the Unselect Committee of political Thugs has withdrawn the Subpoena of me concerning the January 6th Protest of the CROOKED 2020 Presidential Election," Trump posted on his Truth Social account.

He added: "They probably did so because they knew I did nothing wrong, or they were about to lose in Court. Perhaps the FBI’s involvement in RIGGING the Election played into their decision. In any event, the Subpoena is DEAD!"

Trump has long held the stance that none of his actions or words on January 6, 2021, were responsible for inciting the Capitol incursion.

His supporters, like Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson (R), have also held that same belief.

Thank goodness that J6 witch hunt is finally over.
