Former Secretary of State and twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton used to be a darling of the Russians. Now she’s in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s crosshairs.
Clinton appeared on a list of “sanctioned” individuals who may not enter Russia effective March 15, Breitbart reported. The list was compiled as Russia’s answer to US restrictions on their nation’s officials.
The relationship between Clinton and Russia is well-established. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, raked in a half a million dollars for a 2010 lecture in Moscow.
Clinton also infamously used an alleged one-time Russian spy, Igor Danchenko, to compile the fake dossier on former President Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign. She used it as the impetus to tie Trump to Putin’s effort to sway the election as she was allegedly doing exactly that herself.
Now Clinton, along with the president’s son Hunter Biden and others who have made money there, has appeared on this list. The Russian foreign ministry explained their list was a “response to a series of unprecedented sanctions” on their top officials.
Those on the list include “President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, as well as several agency heads and other prominent US figures,” the statement said. “This step, taken as a response measure, is the inevitable result of the extreme Russophobic policy of the current US Administration, which, in a desperate attempt to maintain American hegemony, has abandoned any sense of decorum and placed its bets on the head-on containment of Russia,” it continued.
The statement made clear that it would reassess as needed, however. The White House shrugged off the list despite its signal that US officials once valued in Russia are now prohibited.
The increasing tensions between Russia and Ukraine have necessitated a serious response. However, it seems that the US is interested only in window dressing rather than real actions — a fact that Putin is keenly aware of.
