High Time Elected Officials Forfeit Their Paychecks During Lockdowns

We’re “all in this together,” or so we were told at the outset of the pandemic 10 months ago.

This once-comforting notion has quickly morphed into survival of the fittest given the stringent government restrictions and crushing lockdowns that have violated our collective freedoms and destroyed the livelihoods of millions of Americans.

Today, nearly 19 million Americans are out of work while 880,000 of our friends, neighbors and family members filed for unemployment for the first time last week — the highest since early September — reported the Labor Department on Thursday.

But that’s not all. “17% of restaurants — more than 110,000 establishments — are completely closed,” the National Restaurant Association reported this month. In just the past three months 10,000 restaurants have shut their doors, a staggering number that doesn’t even factor cities such as Los Angeles and New York, which subsequently announced the closure of indoor and/or outdoor dining, further decimating this small business sector.

Restaurants are just one industry being hammered by the ever-changing rules and restrictions imposed by heavy-handed government officials, most of whom have never run a business. If you stroll down any Main Street, USA, you’ll see boarded-up windows of countless mom and pop shops that have gone bust at the hands of Draconian regulations imposed by elected officials who don’t impose the same “rules” on big corporations — or themselves.

For example, restaurants have been forced to cut dining capacity to 30% — or close indoor/outdoor dining altogether — in cities across America to #StopTheSpread while airlines can operate flights at full occupancy with no social distancing mandates. Where’s the scientific evidence that shows the highly contagious coronavirus doesn’t spread on crowded public transit systems like subways, buses or Amtrak, but transmits at your local sandwich shop, gym or place of worship?

Or what about airplanes where the stranger sitting right next to you is permitted to take off his/her mask to eat and drink throughout the flight, and that’s A-OK per officials, but tables at restaurants must be spaced at least six feet apart?

And let’s not forget all the patrons being forced to eat outside in sub-freezing New England temperatures, while Democratic Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo was photographed sipping wine indoors at a wine and paint event in Providence this week. This, mind you, was after she urged Rhode Island residents to avoid all nonessential activities amid the pandemic. You’ll also recall California Governor Gavin Newsom and other Democratic officials not living by their own mandates when dining with a large group and members of other households at the exclusive French Laundry restaurant in Napa Valley.

That’s just a smidgen of the glaring inconsistencies and double standards that not only violate our freedoms, but also illustrate how powerful elites are handpicking “winners and losers” in the economy. Power-hungry governors, mayors and other government officials throughout the country are taking home paychecks while shutting down small businesses and restricting millions of workers from earning a living and providing for their families.

If that’s not the definition of income inequality, then what is?

As you can see, we’re not all “in this together.” We’re operating under a grossly unfair and unethical system where almighty government officials don’t suffer any financial hardship during the pandemic while taxpayers — who fund their salaries — get kicked in the shins.

If this is acceptable to you, please locate your spine.

Luckily, there’s a solution: Voters must demand that elected officials forfeit their own paychecks when any business is shuttered under their mandate. For example, if a business is shut down restricting Americans from earning a living for three weeks, then the official must forfeit their salary for the same duration. If a lockdown extends, so does the official’s pay freeze.

That will level the economic playing field eliminating a two-tiered system of “haves” and “have-nots.”

It will also restore the noble concept that we’re all in this together.

I guess is some respects that used to be the case, however when is the last time any government officials stood up and supported anything that would benefit the American people? Their only focus os on what benefits them, their families( especially monetarily) and as payback to their big donors. Even the post office is on the take with a huge bonus for aiding in the stolen election.

You and everybody else knows damn good and well that the lockdowns would stop as quickly as they came if the officials stopped being paid and all perks were removed from them.

I agree that all the officials supporting a lockdown on the businesses in their district should have their salaries withheld for the entire duration of their selected lockdown time period.

It’s easy to enact lock downs when it doesn’t effect you, the politicians should feel the pain of ordinary citizens. This should have been done from the beginning. Maybe they should give back some of their pay.

Most of these politicians are well off anyways, they don’t care, its all about more power and ruining this country. Based on my observations these mayors and governors are democrats. We will be at the mercy of the“crumbs” we will be handed
Raising taxes and shutting down the economy isn’t worth it. OPEN UP the economy NOW!
It’s insanity, doing the same thing over and over and getting the same results.
So much for the original call to flatten the curve with a 3 week shutdown. It’s 9 months for God’s sake.

We can donate Government salaries to small businesses they so enjoy ignoring.

Sad thing is, they have already made millions of dollars so they don’t care if they don’t get a paycheck. It’s not like they are going to send anyone any money. So this really means nothing.

Meanwhile, Public School teachers are still on full pay and refusing to work. Each child in public school is funded $10,000-$20,000 depending mostly on location or special needs. That money is being used to pay teachers, administrators and some staff. YOU should get that money. You’re the ones who had to make arraignments, like cutting your work hours, paying for day care. Wanna get real mad? The L.A. Public School Teachers/Unions say they won’t go back until the police are defunded……..even though that’s none of their business……and of course, they’ll still be getting paid full salary.
They should all be fired outright. Plenty of people looking for $75,000 a year and 2 months off!

How do we accomplish this vote? And how do we accomplish keeping the state governments from overriding it. Washington state government, being mostly democratic always overrides something that directly affects them.

It is called a referendum, you have to get enough people to sign a petition to bring to a vote of the people. you will need to find out how many signatures you will need to force a vote of the people.
And the government can not override it. It is the will of the people.

You can even use a referendum to change or add to the local, state, or federal constitutions. Just a thought. Or perhaps remove someone from office, like that Chinese spy on the intelligence committee “Swalwell”. Or the governor of CA.. It is the power of the people. Just remember that the government works for you not you for it. But you have to make it happen.

This isn’t about covid it is about training, !!!!!! You to obey the orders of the oppressors’ that think they are the almighty. It does not matter if you are dem or rep the almighty gods of the left demand obedience, even if it means you death or the death of you children. They do not care just as long as you obey. We all need to rise up and tell them this is not China or Russia, and we will not be treated like [email protected] So we must disobey and open up with out the consent of the Oppressor. We must let them know this is our country, and we are going to keep it. If you want to be a [email protected] [email protected] vote for a demonicrat. If you want to be free vote for a republican.

I agree COMPLETLY!!! Politicians SHOULD FOLLOW the Guidelines THEY set everyone else. THEY only THINK that they can “walk on water”. “Power Corrupts; Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely”

ALSO: The POTUS, by Law can Serve no more than TWO ( 2 ) TERMS. I BELIEVE that ALL Members of Congress should NOT be allowed to serve More than FOUR Terms in totality; BETTER YET, a Max of THREE Terms.
AND, Congress SHOULD NOT be the Dept. to determine THEIR OWN Salaries!!! Again; from above “Power Corrupts………..” !!!

Congress thieves are paid $174,000 a year for each year in office. They take “breaks” and “recess” that amount to about 1/3 of their actual hours, meaning they get paid full salary while only working about 2/3 of the year. Ask if you can get that deal from your employer. Where they get rich is campaign contributions, they keep what they don’t spend. And don’t forget “under the table” payments for favors to wealthy constituents, there is no record of them. We trust they won’t do that, but if you believe that, I’ve got a bridge for sale cheap. Politics runs on more illicit money than legal, almost every member of Congress, of any party, is on the take in one way or another. You can trust any politician about as far as you can spit, but only if you don’t turn your back. That will get you stabbed every time.

How did we ever lett this happen? Were letting the scum of the earth ruin our lives and the lives of our children. We all have worked hard to have a nice home and nice things and now were letting a few scum bags ruin our lives. It is time people to stop talking and act. I am very much afraid that we have let this go way to far. I have lived for 86 years and never and I mean never seen anything like this. We have let Dirt Bags ruin our country that a lot of us fought and died for. We must ask and Pray to all Mighty God to help us to restore what we have done to ourselves .My God bless each one of us..
