Fox News’ Bill Hemmer shocked fans on Friday by warning that if cancel culture is allowed to go after American historical figures, bible characters are up for cancellation as well.
Though Black Lives Matter protests have largely died down now that Donald Trump is out of office, conversations about “canceling” historical figures — even Abraham Lincoln, who was murdered for his role in the emancipation of American slaves — have continued.
While discussing a Chicago initiative in which discussions about reviewing and potentially removing statues of historical figures, including Lincoln, around the city, Hemmer commented that the left won’t stop there.
“If they start canceling American presidents, they’ll come after Bible characters next,” Hemmer said. “Mark my words, right?”
The Chicago initiative seeks to review statues placed around the city that may promote “narratives of white supremacy,” present “inaccurate and/or demeaning characterizations of American Indians,” and memorialize “individuals with connections to racist acts, slavery and genocide.”
Fox News co-host Dana Perino expressed surprise that Chicago may be purging Lincoln from its list of honored citizens as Lincoln has been widely celebrated in the state of Illinois — which he considered his home state despite being born in Kentucky — for over 150 years.
“Way, way back in the day when I was first working in local news, I was at a CBS affiliate in Springfield, Illinois, and Lincoln was everything,” Perino said. “A part of every aspect of the city and there was even a sandwich named after Abraham Lincoln.”

Of course, Hemmer’s comments have been mercilessly mocked across social media, but Hemmer is right.
Only a few years ago, it would be unthinkable to target Abraham Lincoln as an accessory to white supremacy or some other such nonsense, but the narrative has been hijacked by people that have learned how to play the race card so effectively that one can’t even point out the logical conclusion of the madness without being canceled themselves.
