A new report claims President Joe Biden assigned Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the nation’s response to immigration because he did not want to do it himself, according to Harris insiders.
“If you give someone a sh***ty assignment because the president doesn’t want to do it himself, you can’t be mad when the treacherous situation looks treacherous,” one former aide reportedly told Axios.
The Daily Caller reported, “Border patrol captured 180,000 migrants at America’s border with Mexico in May, following 178,000 in April and 173,000 in March. Despite the surge, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported the fewest number of illegal immigrants in the agency’s history — 2,962 — in April.”
The numbers continue to grow despite Harris making multiple calls and virtual meetings. The vice president also traveled to Guatemala and to Mexico City last week to meet with leaders to address the immigrant crisis.
Many have continued to criticize Harris for not visiting the nation’s southern border more than 10 weeks after being appointed to leading the response to the issue. In addition, statistics continue to reveal the number of illegal immigrants continues to increase, despite the work of Harris.
Some in her own party even believe Harris and Biden are not doing enough to help immigrants entering the nation. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, “First, seeking asylum at any US border is a 100% legal method of arrival. Second, the US spent decades contributing to regime change and destabilization in Latin America.”
This is disappointing to see.
First, seeking asylum at any US border is a 100% legal method of arrival.
Second, the US spent decades contributing to regime change and destabilization in Latin America. We can’t help set someone’s house on fire and then blame them for fleeing. https://t.co/vADyh5H0bw

Harris faces attacks from her party and conservatives, despite being assigned the issue by Biden. The negative connections could continue to hurt the vice president’s image as she potentially seeks a White House run of her own in the future.
