Hannity: It’s time to replace McConnell as GOP leader

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered a fiery, brutally critical U.S. Senate floor speech about former President Donald Trump just minutes after he voted in favor of an acquittal.

Those remarks have sparked intense backlash, from both members of Congress and high-profile media personalities, like Fox News’ Sean Hannity, who just demanded this week that the “sanctimonious” Kentucky senator should be replaced, according to Breitbart.ย

The primetime Fox News host held nothing back as he slammed a number of Senate Republicans who turned on the former president when it came time to vote on whether or not he should be convicted while raising questions about where those anti-Trump senators were when high-profile Democrats were spouting off inflammatory language in the past.

“Whereโ€™s the sanctimonious Mitch McConnell, John Thune, demanding that Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Watersโ€” when is he going to give a speech on the Senate floor and hold those Democrats accountable for their incitement of insurrection and their insurrection-like language?” Hannity said.

Hannity also called out McConnell and Sen. John Thune (R-SD) for failing to be so vocal on issues like digging into the origins and players involved in the failed “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation.

“This is the question Republicans have to ask themselves tonight. Where was John Thune and Mitch McConnell fighting against the biggest abuse of power corruption scandal in our history with Operation Crossfire Hurricane? They were missing in action,” Hannity said.

The Fox News host isn’t the only person concerned about McConnell’s abrupt break from Trump-level Republican politics. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), recently stated that he’s worried that McConnell put a target on the backs of all Senate Republicans in the upcoming 2022 midterm elections, according to USA Today.

“He got a load off his chest, obviously, but unfortunately he put a load on the back of Republicans,โ€ Graham said of McConnell’s floor speech. “That speech you will see in 2022 campaigns.”

Only time will tell, but it looks like sometime before 2022, Republicans up for reelection will be forced to choose which side of the party they align with.
