The former United States’ ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, stepped forward to offer some helpful advice to President Donald Trump in regards to the daily press briefings on the response to the coronavirus.
The daily press briefings put on by the White House feature top experts, advisors to the President, and President Trump himself. The briefings have been a tool to relay important updates, current changes in protocols and a forum to provide real-time feedback to the press and to the nation.
As is always the case with Trump, there have been supporters and critics alike. Some outlets, like CNN, refuse to even carry the briefings in their totality while other outlets like MSNBC, have called for the briefings to be banned because they allege Trump’s briefings are potentially dangerous.
Haley, while appearing on Fox and Friends offered President Trump some friendly advice on how to change the briefings moving forward.
“But I also think he needs to let his experts speak. Let them talk about it,” Haley suggested during her interview. “I think he should go and set the tone. I think he should let them put out the data. I think they should answer any questions that the press has. And then, they should leave. I don’t think they need to be too long. I don’t think he needs to feel like he has to answer everything.”
Haley applauded the president’s ability to “over-communicate” which she acknowledged is necessary for leaders to do in a time of crisis.
