Governor DeSantis responds to migrant lawsuit, reveals that migrants shipped to Martha's Vineyard signed waivers

Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis moved a group of immigrants from his state to tony Martha's Vineyard. Now they're suing, claiming they were tricked into it despite evidence to the contrary.

The group of some 50 migrants has filed a class action lawsuit against DeSantis for allegedly defrauding them, Fox News reported. However, the people who boarded the planes signed waivers that essentially negate that claim.

Their lawsuit alleges the governor and others "designed and executed a premeditated, fraudulent, and illegal scheme centered on exploiting this vulnerability for the sole purpose of advancing their own personal, financial, and political interests." Taryn Fenske, Gov. DeSantis' spokeswoman, called out those behind the lawsuit.

She said the legal filing was "political theater" concocted by "opportunistic activists" exploiting these migrants. She admonished the "activists" who are more concerned with punishing DeSantis than addressing President Joe Biden's policies that "entice illegal immigrants to make dangerous and often lethal journeys" into the U.S.

The migrants supposedly got inducements like McDonald's gift certificates to board the plane. The lawsuit also claims they were told they were going to Boston and enticed to cross state lines under false pretenses, which could amount to a federal crime.

However, the lawsuit has little merit considering the waivers they were provided in both English and Spanish. They signed off, agreeing to "hold the benefactor or its designed representatives harmless" during the entire journey from Texas to Massachusetts.

Fenske confirmed the flight "was done on a voluntary basis" for them. "The immigrants were homeless, hungry, and abandoned – and these activists didn't care about them then," she said.

"Florida's program gave them a fresh start in a sanctuary state, and these individuals opted to take advantage of chartered flights to Massachusetts," Fenske added. "It was disappointing that Martha's Vineyard called in the Massachusetts National Guard to bus them away from the island within 48 hours."

DeSantis did more to uncover the hypocrisy of the left than anyone in recent memory. This lawsuit only further proves the left's willingness to use illegal immigrants to score political points.
