GOP with new House majority plans to investigate SCOTUS abortion case leak

According to the Washington TimesRepublicans, with their new majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, are "preparing to prod" the U.S. Supreme Court on its investigation of the unprecedented abortion case leak.

It has been eight months now since Politico, in May 2022, published the leaked U.S. Supreme Court draft decision for the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

It was in this leaked draft that Americans first learned that the justices were planning to overturn the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade, returning the issue of whether or not abortion ought to be legal to the people through their state legislators.

The justices officially did so over the summer, when they released their official decision in Dobbs.

The Democrats attempted to capitalize on the leak from day one. There were numerous "protests," some of which even violently targeted conservative members of the U.S. Supreme Court, such as Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

More recently, many have argued that the abortion issue helped Democrats to perform better in the 2022 midterm elections than they were expected to.

Meanwhile, the circumstances of the leak - including the identity of the leaker - remain unknown.

Chief Justice John Roberts has ordered an investigation of the leak. But, this investigation has been carried out in private for many months now without any updates.

Justices Neil Gorsuch and Elena Kagan publicly stated that they were expecting an update in the fall of 2022. But, that update never came.

Now, House Republicans, with the new majority, are looking to do something about this.

The Washington Times reports:

Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, poised to take over as chairman of the Judiciary Committee when the new Republican-led House takes control in January, has made it clear he wants to get to the bottom of the mess, and an aide confirmed it remains a priority.

It is not exactly clear how the House Republicans will go about the matter. But, Jordan recently suggested, at the very least, that he might look to hold hearings on it.

The Washington Times quotes Jordan as saying:

Dozens and dozens of churches were attacked, dozens and dozens of pro-life crisis pregnancy centers were attacked, protests occurred at Supreme Court justices’ homes, and there was an assassination attempt on Justice [Brent M.] Kavanaugh. But to date, in this Congress, not one hearing in the House Judiciary Committee about that leak. Not one hearing.

The U.S. Supreme Court has not responded to Jordan's statements.
