President Joe Biden is doing precious little to stem the tide of illegal immigration. However, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is not having it.
Biden was just slapped in the face by Abbott’s recently-announced plans to build a wall along the Texas-Mexico border to deal with the border crisis, the Washington Examiner reported. The governor made his remarks Thursday in Del Rio at a “border security summit.”
“I will announce next week the plan for the state of Texas to begin building the border wall in the state of Texas,” Abbott to members of law enforcement officers, county judges, and local mayors. “The border crisis is no laughing matter,” he added. “It’s not a tourism site for members of Congress to visit and then return to D.C. and do nothing.”
The problem for Texas is that areas along the southern border are being inundated with illegal aliens because of the inaction of the federal government. “One thing we know and that is a border crisis is plaguing the farmers, the ranchers, the residents of the entire border region,” Abbott said.
The governor also spoke of the way local police departments are being stretched thin while dealing with the problems brought on by illegal immigration. “Your law enforcement officers, they are having to redirect their resources to deal with the border as opposed to deal what they normally deal with which is keeping your communities safe every day.”
Abbott laid the blame squarely on the Biden administration. During former President Donald Trump’s administration, migrants were under a “remain in Mexico” order while they awaited citizenship, but Biden is essentially opening the door for all comers.
“Now, the commitment is anybody who wants to come in is going to be allowed to come in,” Abbott said, repeating, “A change is needed.”
Democrats are never tough on illegal immigration, but the Biden administration seems particularly intent on allowing the border to be overrun with illegal immigrants. The federal government isn’t interested in stopping it, but Abbott’s announcement makes it clear he’s willing to take matters into his own hands.
