South Carolina Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace said she now carries a gun after vandalism to her home and death threats to her and her family.
“When I was running for Congress, I had someone vandalize my vehicle,” Mace said on “Fox & Friends First,” according to Breitbart News.
“I’ve had threats, but until those individuals show up at your house, it doesn’t feel as real. And when that happened, I was shocked. My neighbors were shocked, and worse, my kids were shocked about it. It doesn’t feel good when you have to look over your shoulder every day worried about what might happen next,” she added.
During a separate interview on Fox Business on Tuesday, Mace also said, “And so for me, wherever I go in South Carolina and I am allowed to carry, I have a firearm on my person, always carrying. And I have to tell you, as a mom, as a single mom, it’s one of the most empowering things I have done.”
She added, “I am in the process of getting my concealed carry permit for D.C. I want to make sure I follow all the laws, but I’m not going to be put in a position where I can’t defend myself.
“And we’ve seen political violence increasing over the last year to year and a half. And I want to make sure that I can defend myself and my family and my values and the things that I believe in.”
Mace’s public confession of carrying a gun as a lawmaker will make some Americans uncomfortable, but many other Americans will embrace the option as a positive expression of Second Amendment freedom.
