Arizona Republican Rep. Andy Biggs filed articles of impeachment on Tuesday against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his lack of leadership regarding the border crisis.
“Secretary Mayorkas is a threat to the sovereignty and security of our nation,” Biggs said in a statement.
“As a result of his actions and policies, America is more in danger today than when he began serving as Secretary. He is willfully refusing to maintain operational control of the border and is encouraging aliens to enter our country illegally,” he continued.
“Under his direction, DHS is systematically releasing COVID-19 positive aliens into our communities, subjecting the American people to unnecessary and avoidable risks. Secretary Mayorkas is failing to faithfully uphold his oath of office and is presiding over a reckless abandonment of border security and immigration enforcement, at the expense of the U.S. Constitution and the security of the United States,” Biggs concluded.
In a Twitter post on Tuesday, Biggs added, “His impeachment is well overdue and critical for the security of our nation.”

It is uncertain whether the congressman’s resolution will make any progress in the Democrat-controlled House. With the party’s slim margin of power, just a few votes from the left could make the impeachment resolution a reality.
Biggs has led a strong effort to remove a key leader in Biden’s open border policy actions. Americans will be closely watching to see whether the move leads to any new positive change regarding the border.
